Kavala is a city in northern Greece, the principal seaport between Thessaloniki and Istanbul with a long and significant presence in the historical evolution of the area. The city's history starts in the late 7th century B.C when the name was Neapolis, continues in the Middle Ages when renamed Christoupolis as the first city to accept Christianism, was later part of the Ottoman Empire from 1387nto 1912, known nowadays as Kavala; was also referred as Cavalla in her long history. The identity of the town as a tobacco trade centre is considered to have greatly influenced the local development as much as the working profile status of Balkans after the first strikes recorded

The ancient theatre of "Philippoi" was a city in eastern Macedonia. Its initial name was Krenides Until 356 B.C. when Philip II of Macedon renamed is after his name. One of the most famous and important monuments of ancient Philippoi is the Hellenistic theatre, built around the 4th century B.C., probably by the King of Macedonia and father of Alexandr the Great, and it still dominates at the lower part of the Acropolis hill. The archaeological site of Philippoi has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 2016
