Did you know...?

Philippi was a city in eastern Macedonia. Its initial name was Krenides until 356 B.C. when Phillip II of Macedon renamed it after his name. One of the most famous and important monuments of ancient Philippi is the Hellenistic theatre, built around th 4th century B.C., probably by the King of Macedonia and father of Alexander the Great, and it still dominates at the lower part of the Acropolis hill. The arcgaeological site of Philippi has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 2016.
